POST 5: My Future Job

Again, my one dimentional beaing. Maybe I'm getting too repetitive, but I don gonna lie! I only think in film making, and my dream is beaing a movie director and wrighter. And obviously I think I'm gonna be a movie director and wrighter, I'm working hard for that.  Why I want that two jobs in making movies? Because im an autor, i like that lidership creative stuff.

You know how this works. Ideas or/and writh a script, planning with a team and other creative departments, storyboards, casting, shooting, editing, cool. What is cool of shooting? Its outdoor and indoor, in cool creative and relevant places, somethimes even travels. You know, shooting a film, FUN. A lot of table work with the team, then shooting and finally again to table work.

Currently I'm an editor, maybe I can edit too? I dont know, I have a lot of time to think. But I'm sure to be in film making, wrighting and directing. Im learning so much, really so much. Im so happy for that.

POST 4: My Favorite TV show

As you (probably) know, TV Shows or TV Series are currently not only in TV, because the new streaming service like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, HBO MAX, etc. Why is this relevant? Because the indutry or the distribution of TV Shows are no longer like before. Old series are now completed in streaming service or now exist other sub generes, like Mini Series or Limited Series. Im gonna take all of these formats in one bag for this homework and I can't pick only one, you are reminded.

Favorite Sitcom: Friends.

So no one told you life was gonna be this way? I watched Friends because the new of a reunion of the original cast, and I watched this in the quarentine of the last 2020 year. And what i can say, quoting Chandler Bing, could this BE more iconic? You know, its a sitcom. There is not archs of characters or storyline, only a scenario to laugh in the situations of the caharacters, a young and good looking white people in the 90´s New York. The series are not only funny, but also rich in characters and his caracterization and development. The series have 10 seasons, in the middle of the series the friends, Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Phoeby and Joey was MY FRIENDS. I knew him, his personality and quotes. Friends stays with you forever. Its a series to watch again every so often, with a smile in yout face.

Favorite Drama: Breaking Bad.

SAY MY NAME. I have not seen Sopranos, first point. What can I say about Breaking Bad. Amazing interpretations, adictive storyline, great and succesful drama, a hit in the story of television series. Its a Mob story, about a geniuous chemical teacher who decides to be a meth cooker with and ex student before he dies for cancer and have an opportunity to let money for his family. The whole world get mad about this series. Awards, spin offs, still have the best rating in IMDB, superior than Game of Thrones. Its an scencial pick to every person who likes fictional cinema. I mean it.

Favorite Anime: Monster.

Curious, i dont really watch Anime. I dont really didn´t like it. The over reactions and cringe, screaming and yelling and stories about boring super powers and over the top direction and cinematography. But I reallice But I realized a couple of years ago that this was just one genere of all anime, the "Shonen" (for children). Then I discovered the "Seinen" genere (more adult content) and I discovered Monster. The story about an Japanese surgeon who lives in the post "Berlin Wall Fall" Germany, who have to pursuit a serial killer what he saved his life when the killer was a child. A cold and slow thriller, who talks you about the repentance and life mistakes. So adult, so serious. I really love this series, and I considere if you like anime and you havent watch Monster and you only watch Shonen, oh boy... You are wasting your life.

POST 3: A person I would like to meet

I really admire a lot of people who i would love to meet. Daniel Craig, John Williams, Ricardo Darín. But thinking this, I start to think in what would it be more valuable to me. Im an one-dimensional boy, I almost only think in movies and film making, but I think a have to feed more my film maker side than my film watcher side. Because in this point in my life, i have to learn how to make good movies, not only watch good movies. SO, i will prefere to meet people who have something to teach to me about film making, or giving me good advices about this art.

I'll start with Steven Spielberg. Yes, mainstream. But because that fame some people forgot he is the director of movies what are not only fun, but also brilliant in direction and in shooting setpieces, envolving the people in the movie and workin character depevolment. Jurassic Park, The War of the Worlds, Shindler's List, Catch Me if you Can are amazing, amazing films in every way. And i want to know the advices, secrets and facts to learn how to do something like that. I have heard (and watched in HOURS AND HOURS of interviewsa and Behind the Scenes footage) Steven is a quiet and soft guy, but determinated. I think he would accept to talk to me.

My second choise is Denis Villenueve. The director of Sicario, Blade Runner 2049 and Dune (2021) its my favourite director and I think its the director of the decade, period. Waching him in 2016 i learned how to direct showing, dont telling. His visual and pure cinematographic style its my high reference to my future films, and talking to him and asking for advices sound like pure gold. I dont really know so much about his personality, interviews only
show me a smiling guy, surprisly charming with fun commentaries or saying something cool. Now, i think talking with him could be something more tan useful, maybe like a friend talk.

I know this things probably never happend, but I thing im already talking to great people in film making right now, studing film making. My teachers are really wise and cool, and honestly im happy to have they.

POST 2: My Life Soundtrack

As a cinephile and a film making student, i'm totally in soundtrancks stuff. My favourite band always has been Queen. His style, the classic music energy, the dramatic lyrics, god. I meet them when I was little by my parents and I have not left it anymore. And its the only band who I follow in this level, reading the history and listening every album and every single song. Always is a good moment for a Queen song, waking up with "Don't Stop me Now" or excercise with "Another One Bites the Dust", totally cool.

If you watch my Spotify playlist, you will see a lot of variety of artist, in english and spanish too. Juan Gabriel, Los Prisioneros, Luis Miguel, Soda Stereo, Los Bunkers, Bad Bunny, or Michael Jackson, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Phil Collins, etc. Like the Soundtracks in Martin Scorsese´s movies, or Tarantino's movies, my life is full of caracteristic music with a special mood for every moment, to be correct or to be dissonant with the moment, both work.

I like a lot the instrumental music, specially the classic music, orchestral music. You know, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin. This is not to be pretencious, its because i really like orchestral music, sorry. My favourite oldie song its "Hungarian Rhapsody" by Frantz Litz, because his amazing dramatic energy and creativity, and of course because that famous Tom and Jerry episode. And to be ending, OF COURSE i love movie Original Soundtracks, the famous OST. Starting by original songs to movies, like James Bond original songs for the title sequens. My favourite is A View to a Kill by Duran Duran. And obviusly there is the orchestral OST, and coposers like Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, Avengers) James Horner (Titanic, Avatar), Hans Zimmer (Interstellar, Gladiator), and of course John Williams (Star Wars entire saga, Jurassic Park). I love this music so much that I listen to it as if it were normal songs, in my phone in Spotify or in live concerts in YouTube. Somethins playing with my family to guessing the movie. I can lisen at this OST at any time, these are so dramatic and iconic, so badass and powerfull. You know, nerd things.

POST 1: A country I would like to visit.

It's curious, I don't really think about traveling or visiting other countries. I think i'm such a nerd for that. I'm usually happy in my ideas. Although, I really like to travel this country, Chile. A couple of summers ago I visited the south with my parents, Ancud and Puerto Montt were so cool and beautiful. I really like to visit the film studios in California, but I dont really like USA (I admit that it is because of prejudice). Others countries because movies, the same case. England because James Bond, in places like the MI6 or Harry Potter. New Zeland for Lord of the Rings or Power Rangers. But I insisit, its my minor concern. Ah! And studying. Of course, that is a priority. I really want to be an exchange student in a future. Maybe Canada because the Toronto Film Festival and because my favorite director is from there, Dennis Villeneuve. And there the people speaks English and I only need to learn English quite well: speak only in English. We'll se if I have that opportunity that I want so much...

A subject you enjoy studying: Script

Maybe because the pandemic, or because my personal interest. But this year i discover more than i spect about the wrighting of a movie. I have never had bad teachers since I was at this university, since 2019 when i was in Teory and History of Art. But you know, this new way of classes makes some great teachers in boring ones. Its not his fault, but is what it is.

To my glad, script was not bad in Zoom. My teacher says its a lot of better in real classes, but what we have is awesome. My teacher is Orlando Lübbert, and he has this book, by himself. That is my subject. This book, oh man. Im so astonished about how much i am learned. The name is "Guion para un cine posible". Fun fact, script in spanish dont have accent mark. Dont know why this book have this title like that. But you know, nothing its perfect.

It is impressive that he has been so good at creating a book to learn his scriptwriting. The chapters, the themes, how you refer to them. I have mine full of notes and markers, I feel like I rediscovered something with his book and with him. I knew they were the scripts in the cinema, but now they fascinate me and maybe I tend to them a little in my vocation.

Thanks to things like this i whink i have not wasted this year and i can still believe in my dream to become a filmmaker.

Paul Verhoeven: Violence

Today im gonna talk to you about this old man, his name is Paul Verhoeven. This movie director its very important to my conception as a filmmaker, because his movies shocked me when i was a child.

Verhoeven was born in Amsterdam on 18 of July 1938, and  yes, he lived the World War II and the Nazi ocupation, hard childhood. He talks about this years. Bombs falling from above, the city in ruins and he walking on corpses. That is part of his style: human fragility and pure violence. When the war ends, he saw amercian films and he fall in love in this art. He start to shoot films, and acquires his particular style: hyper realistic erotism and violence, human fragility and the human conflict. But he dont have success in Holland and was acused of immorality. But the american industry took him with pleasure.

Maybe you know some of his american works: Robocop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers, The Hollow Man. All of them are in my personal favorites movies of all time. But im not the only fan of this guy. Robocop and Starship Troopers are cult classics, admired and studied for his commentary of the american society, the human existence and his particular style to talk about all of this: criticizing but belonging to criticism, with slight hints from his comment. Robocop its a movie about the human existence, life and death, living after all memory, but all of this under a fun and violent criminal story. Starship Troopers its a movie about facism, miliratied society and the war, but under lights and bullets and fun, under a empty but cleber war sci-fi movie. Acctualy, in his time Starhip Troopers was named a facist movie, but the critics now understand his mistake.

Why i love this man? He inspired me not only to study filmmaking, he inspired my style too. How he can make shocking, stuning action packed movies, but with a complex and deep subtext. I want to be like Paul. You can see him directing in the Behind the Scenes, with a lot of energy. Acting like his monsters, screaming, yelling, jumping. Not behind a director chair, always in the ground, always in everywhere. I want to be like him. Its one of my favorite directors and, in some way, a teacher of mine.
